First records of organised Polish community life in Victoria date back to 1863. In the wake of the November 1830 uprising in Poland a small number of people took refuge in Australia. During World War I, a Polish Fund Committee was formed in Melbourne. With considerable help from Dame Nellie Melba and other prominent Australians, the Committee collected funds to assist the victims of war in Poland. more >
